How do we understand our existence? How does evolution come into the picture?
One of the key themes of the text is the importance of “One” in driving evolution and growth. Whether it’s a single molecule, gene, idea, or leader, it only takes one to create a new developmental strategy or bring about change. However, there may still be unanswered questions about how exactly these “ones” interact with the larger systems and forces at play in the world.
The sun came into being 4.8 billion years ago. Life started on Earth around the same time. The radiation from the sun to Earth is One molecule that fights its way from the sun’s core.
As non-animal species, we began to take shape almost 7 million years ago.
Was it a simple transition, or did it take evolution many tries?
As I read these authors, it is becoming more apparent that it takes One molecule, mutation, gene, idea, and leader for the evolution or developmental stable strategy to pick it up and evolve into something new. The judgment should be kept aside because change does not know good or bad; it just is.
The One gene found in our neocortex, “ARHGAP11B”, is the primary cause of the different folds we have in our brain. The One gene, “MYH16”, is the primary cause of the brain size and control of the jaw. Gene mutation ARHGAP11B and MYH 16 evolved approximately five million years ago. One gene and mutation defined the chances of survival even if the effect of the life and death prospect was so small in the midst of the gene pool. Evolution picked this mutation, took time to evolve, and made its influence felt. The adaptiveness of this mutation is complex, but it gave us non-animal species a fighting chance to move from the middle of the food chain to adjust to environmental threats or challenges so that we could take advantage of the resources available and come on top of the food chain.
Similarly, One idea of what lies beyond a territory, how we can move faster than foot, etc. This led to so many discoveries that now we are thinking of Living on Mars. It has taken us, the non-animal species, time, just as evolution has in its trials and tribulations, to learn, spend energy and grow.
It is with a similar effect that in relationships, it takes One leader to show up who wants to shift the “network of emotional process ” from a linear cause and effect from the blame and change game. A leader who wants to take responsibility for making a difference in their own family despite all the pushback. The process of evolution will kick in, and the coming generations will see the shift. I am not saying it, and it is how growth happens.
I am making that change, and evolution will take its step. I take this step under my coach, Dr. Carrie Collier.
